Default Diamond lake opener April 25th

Well, from most that I've talked to the lake will remain in ice this year on opening day. I've heard talk about ice fishing but is that really safe at a fragile time during the thaw. Prehaps they were just kidding me. But if ice fishing is an option where do you fish and what sort of safety equipment or devices should a fisherman have with him. Anyway, I'm starting this thread to get information out there about current conditions on the lake. Anyone have a idea...please speak out.

I fished it last year on the opener and did really well. but only 3inches of ice doesn't seem very safe this trip around. I think we will cancel the reservation and head elsewhere.

We used to slide a 12' flat bottom out on mushy ice. One foot in the boat - one foot on the ice. Wear lifejackets. Looked pretty silly sitting out there on the ice in a boat but it worked. We would tie a rope off to shore but never needed it. Take a couple oars. Take a saw, axe, spud or auger to get a hole. 12' maximum diameter in Oregon I believe.
Fishing was always awesome.

Keep an eye on the Diamond Lake fishing report website. It's updated weekly right now but will be increased as we get closer to the opener. The last pic taken at the North ramp 4/9 wasn't too encouraging but that'll change in a hurry with warmer weather coming. Good luck and please post a report when you get back!

Add a couple strips of plywood to this recipe so you have something to walk around on without sinking into the slush and your golden.

Legal hole diameter is 6 inches " not 12 feet '
