Default Swimbaits.....

Stopped by Fishermans Marine today, as I was in OC for work. Saw that they have a decent selection of swimbaits (at least more than anyone else around here), and decided to pick up some. I bought some of the YUM 5", rainbow trout colored. So my question is, what is the best swimbait out there? I am mostly interested in the unrigged ones, cause I fish too much slop usually to use the rigged ones. Ideas?

brackshooter, There isn't an exact "best" swimbait. It all depends on how you fish it and what water temp and the forage the bass eat. Its all about applying the actual swimbait.

Pick up a 6" 3:16 Mission Fish. Not many better options as far as weedless swimbaits go that don't require a dedicated swimbait rod. By "unrigged" do you mean any swimbait that comes with a hook?

Sometimes you will get lucky enough to catch a bass with a real fish in its mouth. Not too long ago on the lower Willy I caught a 3lbr on a grub and jig head. He came up with a little smolt in his mouth, about 3 inches long and mostly white with a grey back. I figured the Clack must of been it's home. I happened to have a matching swimbait (prerigged which I favor often), hooked it up and slayed 7 more beasts, then gently released them.

I know at Hagg the rainbow pattern works great right after a stocking...don't be afraid to go big with that. I love a good catch and release there, nudge, nudge.

Good luck, send pics!
