Default St Croix Legend Ultra 3 Wt ?

I'm looking to possibly build this rod, but I'm slightly concerned about how it will cast up close, like 10 feet. Do any of you have experiennce with this rod that you'd be willing to share?

Thanks,
Kevin

i have that rod, and its good at 10 and 15 or even less. 3 weight rods are no distance casters, great for pee wee creeks, and not big fish. its a great once or twice a year rod. good luck

Thanks wolfhunter. A friend has landed 2 steelhead this year which he hooked incidently while nymphing for trout, using his 3 Wt Imperial. He can cast 60+ feet with that rod, but then he's a great caster and angler. I'm looking for something to use in the range of 8-30' to hook 6-18" trout in a small river with brushy banks. The thing that concerns me the most about the Legend Ultra is its fast action which seems like it would make it hard to load up for a short cast. 10 feet minimum load is good, 15 would be a bit too far in my book, for a short 3 Wt. I really need to cast this rod, I may get a chance later this week.

BTW do you really hunt wolves? There aren't many/any in these parts.
