When the DFO closes a river, it's closed for everything. It's a shame that the storied Thompson River has a spawning escapement goal of 800 freakin' fish. That river should have 80,000 spawners.

I'm starting to feel a ban all nets rant coming on...

I've never fished the Thompson River, but the name carries a reputation for fine steelhead fishing. It sounds from the article that the problem is that the nets for chums have taken too many steelhead.

I guess I'm glad I live (and mostly fish) in Oregon where the only significant net fishery is in the Columbia, which is bad enough. I sense great frustration among the sport fishers in Washington who witness indiscriminate netting in local rivers.

There is a lot of great fishing up north, but it is seriously degraded by nets.
