First Steelie CAUGHT!!!!!!!!
Finally did it boys and gals. First steelhead - just a little guy - about 20".  I've been fly fishing for about 1.5 years and fishing for steelhead since last winter. Well, Sunday night I was fishing the Wilson. I had forgot my waiters but HAD to wade out to this beautiful spot. I just knew there was a fish waiting for me...3 casts later FISH ON :grin: Fought him for about 5 minutes and didn't even feel that cold water. Nice fiesty native. I handled that baby with great care until it was ready to go off on its own again....ahh the joys! hooked for life

You have ruined yourself forever. Trout fishing will never be the same. Chasing steel with feathers is going to infest your life like the plague. There is no cure, only the quest for the elusive 20 lber that you know will tear you to pieces. All of a sudden, the Russian far east doesn't sound like such a bad place, British Columbia is now on top of your list for fishing trips. You will find out that super smooth drags on fly reels really are worth the insane amount of money they sell for. Your tying kit will be full of bright orange, pink, and purple feathers all of which make your carpet look like a clowns outfit, and the better half can't stand it. Sorry to leave out that crucial information...the fly was a pheasant tail nymph with pink thorax...same fly caught me two nice 15" rainbows on the Siletz yesterday...

HappF, way to go! Caught my 1st one on a fly last summer, struck out on winter run (hooked and lost 2), then landed my 2nd summer run this past August. Like you,I'm now hooked on flies for steelhead, too. Congratulations on your first one!
