Default Yahoo - Finally

Well Well Well what can I say. The fishing Gods were looking down on me this Saturday. I was down on the Alsea River hunting for Salmon and man did I hit the big time. After driving around for a hour or so we located a hole full of active Chinooks. My body is tremboling as I walk down to the river and get set up. I'm shaking so bad my first 5 casts were a joke. Finally I get my crap together and get fishing. My second cast fish on. Bubzilla was right an 8wt has no business in this situation. 5 minutes later the hook popped out. Cast again a couple of minutes fish on. Same thing the hook popped out. Sharpen my hooks and back at it. This time it was a 30+ pounder that ripped me apart. After about 30 miinutes and 10 strainds of backing left popped the hook. Now for the best part. I'm fishing with AirFlo 8wt multi tip line and 15lb leader. This fish just slammed me stripping line out like you wouldn't believe and then disaster strikes. My fly line breaks about 15ft from the backing. Needless to say I found a fly shop and forces myself to purchase some Cortland 333. This stuff is total junk. Sunday I fished for about 30 minutes and left in disgust. What a total waste of money. It goes to show you get what you pay for.

I want to say thank you to everyone that gave me advice this day never would have happened without you!!!!!!!!!!!! Bubzilla the biggest thanks goes out to you, thank you very much.

I cut him up and used him for Sturgeon Bait. Boy we sure got skunked that day. I got nervous using my real name so I had it changed.

Hey congratulations David! Sorry to hear about the line, but that kind of thing is to be expected with chinook. They tend not to play well with others! You realize you've just done the most addictive thing possible, right? I appreciate the thanks, but you only have yourself to blame!

I have broken a couple lines--usually in the tip section, though. Generally it's been after a lot of stress, i.e., multiple fish over several seasons. And, I'm talking about 10 weight lines too. So far the best line for durability I have found has been the Scientific Anglers Mastery Steelhead line. I cut them up and make a custom interchangeable tip line--using braided loops, tying floss, and Aqua Seal. They'll generally last several seasons of some pretty hard use. And, I like being able to match my sink-tip to the exact conditions I fish--sometimes to a particular hole even.

Good luck. Oh, and try not to get frustrated by losing fish. It's not unusual to take a couple seasons to actually bank one. After all, if it were easy, everyone would do it, right?

Congratulations on the new addiction. You're now up on me in at least two ways. Chinook on a fly rod and the chance to torture me waiting on the fly swap flies .
