Default Clearwater River

Fished the Clearwater this past Saturday and managed to land my biggest steelhead ever on a fly. My Boga Grip said 16lbs on this B-run hatchery fish. I haven't been that deep into my backing since fishing Silvers in Alaska. The fish was airborn about a half dozen times and made several long runs. The fish was hooked, landed, and released by about 8am so my day was made early on. I caught 2 more fish on plugs later in the day that were both 14lbs. Lots of guys chucking flys. Gotta get me one of those spey rods. The guy above me was getting about 7 drifts to my one.

It was a great thrill to say the least. A beautiful fish, I hope the pictures come out.

The water is still way down. I was upriver approximately 10 miles out of Lewiston. There are fish thru out the system right now.

Jim, Jim, Jim....what can I tell you. You just won't listen.

Get rid of that Matty Matell Kiddee camera you've got and go digital. You know, my friend, if you had spent your money on conventional/less expensive needle-nosed pliers instead of those costly Leatherman tools you've been tossing overboard [what is it, 3 to date?), you could have afforded to buy a pretty nice digital camera by now.

Okay, don't listen to me. No respect for the elderly!

At any rate, we share in your excitement - that was an incredible fish and a great report. Pity there are no pictures to back it up, but you're the man!!! Knew you'd get Joe's attention on that one.

Dean

Congrats!!! I hope to be up there in a week or two, to get my boat (another sad story) and fish for a few days.

Was the water still way down?
Approximately how high up were you?

Mojo,

Well it was a store bought fly, not a hand tied work of art that you throw. Skunk pattern.

Dean,

You are coming down hard on me but you are right I need to go Digital. I've got atleast 10 more pics to shoot off that roll before I can develop. Not sure a digital goes well with the rock sled however. That's more of a polaroid rig.

I can't believe Dean is bustin' your chops. Maybe next TEAM MOOSE DROOL trip he should bring a bunch of...hmmm...smoked cheese and smoked sturgeon. Hey!, that might atone for his transgressions. (Oops, Mojo's been reading the dictionary for entertainment again... ).

Jim, sorry I had to come down on you so hard on the camera but I heard a lecture the other night at the old folks home about "tough love" and how you sometimes had to do that to get the attention of you youngsters.

Guess Joe hasn't seen your comment on the walleye thread or he'd be in here with me "busting your chops."

Big word Joe, but I don't think you got it out of the dictionary....think you picked that term up out of the Personal Advisor article in Playboy.

Okay, I'll redeam myself on the next trip but it'll have to be smoked coho and smoked cheese - we ate the last of my smoked sturgeon in Sekiu.

But it looks like it might be a bobber show.

Joe, sounds like you plan on a lot of feathers, etc. on your windshield and grill. Is this how you go "birding"? Must be a heck of a life-list you've got.

Naw Dean, I was just going on a road tour of eastern and central Washington. I figure all the game birds will be so scared they'll migrate south. I'll "shut the bite down" for Jim's hunting trip.
