WA small boat bass club.
I am trying to find some guys who would like to fish some tournaments from a small boat, float tube, canoe, log, bathtub etc!!! I have typed this twice hear already..........(by the way it would be nice to know that when you use the spell check here I fish it will delete everything you have typed when it downloads)
So here is the shortened version.
All fishing to be done on small to medium size lakes.
#1 Boat is 16' or less with an engine no more then 30 hp(remember smaller lakes)
#2 Tournaments a month May- October.
To get this started we will just have some "fish In's" somewhere as we won't have a permit for a tournament. Some of the possible lakes would be Shoecraft, Flowing, Sawyer, Meridian, Goodwin or Big lake.
The goal is to have a club that just breaks even on the cost of tournaments with SMALL BOATS. These are not going to be money tournaments....maybe plaques or small trophies for the top 2 or 3 people. Big fish pot if there is a want!!! Look the real goal is to get guys with smaller boats in an arena they can be comfortable and compete.Fish against other guys in a friendly, info sharing, mmmmmmmmaaaybeeeeeee help the other guy arena. I have posted this on a few other boards and there is some interest. If you have any ideas or any input shoot me a pm or give me a call at 425-281-8438
Small Boat club
OK guys this is a Washington State thing........................
I am trying to gauge the interest for a small boat fishing club.(also to include float tubes) The parameters will be listed below. The goal of this club will be to have tournaments that the beginner or "low budget" kinda guy can fish in and be competitive!!!
The tournaments would be on small to medium sized lakes. Some examples would be Shoecraft, Flowing, Sawyer, Meridian, Goodwin, Big lakes. Probably the club would have to be affiliated with either BASS or FLW for the insurance issues. I have been told that a club can get the insurance outside of that cheaper but still researching!!!!(again is there any interest) I think there will have to be a membership fee(small $20-$50) to cover some of the expense and with that said a small fee for each tournament. Monthly meetings and a certain amount of participation(50% of tournaments) I don't want this to be a "money" tournament thing(low budget, beginners) but maybe plaques for the top 3 finishers. Big fish pot(rules will vary for float tubers) The real goal is to be able to fish with a group of guys, have fun, share an interest in catching bass. In a perfect world everyone would share all their secrets but..............hopefully at least everyone would contribute to others in the club.
Understand that all of this is just an idea in the planning stages. Your ideas and participation will really be what determines the finial product. Because nothing has really been made official my thoughts where to start to with some "fish In's". Pick a lake and a date and fish as a group, since we won't have a permit. If we can get a core of at least 6 or 8 guys I think we could really get this thing off the ground. I would like to pick a date in early May if I can just get even a small response.
OK here is basic idea of "small boat" requirements"
#1 Boat is 16' or less with an engine of no more then 30hp.(remember smaller lakes.........well maybe 1 a year on big water???)
#2 Float tubes and such would also be welcome. ( have an idea for weighing and releasing that I believe would work........lets hear your ideas)
#3 Tournaments would be from first light until 1 hr before sundown.(never could understand quitting at 2pm)
#4 Figure 2 tournaments a month May- October. (maybe 2 that are "overnight" 2 day'ers)
#5 Look this clubs goal it to just have fun and improve techniqic and at the end of the day tease the hell out of the other guy!!!!
If this sounds good to you shoot a pm or give me a call 425-281-8438

Re: WA small boat bass club.
Me and some friends did this a couple of years ago. We had a lot of fun. The first year we just did total inches and that was fun but as we all know bass come in many different shapes and it really wasn't great not doing a weigh in. the second year we all broke out the coolers and areators and did weigh in's that was a lot better but it made it hard to use poontoon boat or rafts. Good luck to you guys and let us know how it goes.

Re: WA small boat bass club.
We have pondered that question. The early game plan is.......Those without live wells will have to purchase a hand held digital scale(berkley?? all the same unit) and take a picture.(kinda thinking probley won't be able to be in big fish) or tow a basket until it can be handed off to a willing guy with a live well.............Details thats what we are working on...........and trying to round up a few more(at least) guys.......Hoping to have the first "fish in" May 2nd.

Hey fishnazzi,
You might try cross posting this to the Northwest Kayak Anglers site. There are a several Wa. members who love bass fishing from their yaks.
Here's a link:

Re: WA small boat bass club.
Just because there has been pretty good response to this idea and I know how people love to lurk...........The idea of split category power and non-powered for tourneys has been brought up. It is to good to not go with!!! Planning a fishing meet and greet for Apr 11th if anyone wants to play!!!! Troy 425-281-8438

Re: WA small boat bass club.
I'd probably be in. I live in the Olympia area and could make the commute. It would be cool if we could try fish lakes up and down I-5.

I think we have crossed path before over on nwbass.com I checked out the web site a month or so ago. No mention of small boat club, I had heard from someone else they thought there used to be a north end small boat club but again couldn't find it. Have had a fair number of responses from a no# of fish boards. If WA BASS has anything to offer to help or a plan that has been left to "collect weeds" let me know. Like it says I'm open to ideas.
Just tried the link it has last years tourney schedule, newsletter from August?? Last yours tourney schedule was all big water so I would bigger boats to. If you have a phone for someone give me a call or pm me.

Dan that is exactly the plan. Have had a pretty fair response from all over the West side. There are lots of small to medium size lakes all over.

yea we have probably spoken before on nwb.
our website isnt the best, and its not updated enough.
to give you run down, our small bass club was basically a bunch of fishins held at smaller lakes. it was created and ran by our small boat angler. if i remember correctly - you were only to run off of your trolling motor, and nothing else.
lately there hasnt been much, as no one has had time to run that part of the club. if you are willing to start it back up, i can help out in some way.
i sent you an email so you can contact me quicker.

Re: WA small boat bass club.
Sorry it has taken me almost a week to get something posted from last Sunday. We had 4 small boat fellows show up. Fishing was pretty slow for us, water was 52........tourney on the lake, day before......... I managed 2 small bucks and a suicide bomber trout who ate a hula grub. Phil had the big fish at about 3 1/2 lbs. Our other 2 fellows Jack and Chuck put up the flag and headed for home around noon. Hoping to get some more guys or the same group together for another fish in May 2nd if you would like to come please give me a call at 425-281-8438.........Please call work has been brutal haven't been getting on the computer a lot don't want anyone to feel forgotten!!!
