Well here is the follow up report:
Got there Friday afternoon, it was sunny and beautiful. I drove up to the gate and there were about 15 cars parked there, so I figured I would make the wife happy and went back to where we were staying and make supper.
The next morning there was a pretty solid stream of cars up the road before light, so we went to Newport where I caught several rock bass off the jetty.
At 3pm, I hit the river 2 miles above the gate. Not many cars at the gravel pit and I saw no people, so I was happy. It was drizzling again and the river had come up a bit. I fished several good holes and had no takers, finally I am sitting on the bank thinking about what to do next and a steelhead rolls in front of me. So I start working the hole, finally working into position and drifting my fly where I think the fish would be holding in the hole. I am thinking this is it, now or never, on this drift and ....
WHAMMO!!

for two seconds adrennaline and then the 12 inch cutthoat jumps

. Any way on Sunday morning I went back and had the river to myself. No fish but it sure is pretty up there and I had a great time, and even though I did not catch any steelhead I will certainly go back.
