Default FF Opportunities Siletz above town of Siletz

I am going to be staying on the Siletz next week between Siltez and Logsden. I have never been there before, how fishable is that stretch of river? Any advice would be of help. I am assuming that there will be at least some cutthroat fishing.

Thanks

I have always done well above moonshine park , some pretty decent bank sites, watch out for logging trucks on raod, If I remember you can only be up there certain days of the week?!?!? Due to logging trucks.

The gorge road above Moonshine Park is CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC during the weekdays. It is open during the weekends.

Check out your thread on the main forum. I posted a reply there. Good luck and let's hear a report. I have a buddy that landed six summers up there a few weeks ago.

Well here is the follow up report:

Got there Friday afternoon, it was sunny and beautiful. I drove up to the gate and there were about 15 cars parked there, so I figured I would make the wife happy and went back to where we were staying and make supper.

The next morning there was a pretty solid stream of cars up the road before light, so we went to Newport where I caught several rock bass off the jetty.

At 3pm, I hit the river 2 miles above the gate. Not many cars at the gravel pit and I saw no people, so I was happy. It was drizzling again and the river had come up a bit. I fished several good holes and had no takers, finally I am sitting on the bank thinking about what to do next and a steelhead rolls in front of me. So I start working the hole, finally working into position and drifting my fly where I think the fish would be holding in the hole. I am thinking this is it, now or never, on this drift and ....
WHAMMO!! for two seconds adrennaline and then the 12 inch cutthoat jumps . Any way on Sunday morning I went back and had the river to myself. No fish but it sure is pretty up there and I had a great time, and even though I did not catch any steelhead I will certainly go back.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I have had the same experience in my half dozen attempts at flyfishing for summer/fall steelhead on the Siletz! Those cutts can really give you a hammering strike on a swung fly. The most memorable for me was a big 18" cutt that slammed my swung muddler. I too have yet to catch a steelhead on a fly there but will continue to try!
