Default Hosmer Mojo

I was at Hosmer on Friday. No apparent hatches and very clear water. I threw the box at them for three hours with nothing. Other fishers were getting maybe a fish per rod at best. Finally, I put on a #18 red Chronomid and did a S L O W twitchy retrieve and caught eight in about 45 minutes before I had to go. All Atlantics. That place can bring me to my knees.. but if I'm lucky enough to find the right pattern, there's no place funner!

they can sure be finicky there. I remember a trip out there two summers ago. Was trying to land some atlantics with a quick stripped streamer, nada! My two buddies head in with 1/2 hour of light left. I stayed and fished near the ramp. The atlantics started to feed hard on a hatch, and I tossed the basic #14 adams. As fast as I could cast and twitch, it was hammered. I landed
about 10 plus a BAT before it was all over. One of those times when you are just in the "fly zone"

I didn't see any Brookies. I fished from 9:00 am until about 2:30 on a hot bright day. Not what I would call ideal conditions. The biggest Atlantic was about 16 inches. The two times I have fished that lake I have found my best luck following the left weed edge as you leave the boat ramp. On this occasion the magic combo was to keep 30-40 0ff the edge, cast a floating line just off the edge with a 12' leader down to 6x florocarbon and the red fly I mentioned and its black twin as a dropper. All but one fish took the red one. After I cast I slowly kicked backwards in my pontoon boat one fin--rest-- then the other fin. The whole time I was twitching the heck our of the line with my right index finger. The last time I was there the same technique worked with a small flashback pheasant tail nymph.
