Re: Lani Wallers Flyfishing for Steelhead series
I saw them when I started thinking about flyfishing for steelhead a couple Winters ago. I agree its helpful. That idea of changing directions of the rod to confuse the fish is right on, the first time I tried that I had a hot fish at my feet in less than a minute after hook-up. Then it raced off and broke off. The hookset is controversial among steelheaders though. I use the loop and raise the rod which is common, others don't set the hook at all. Waller's technique takes infinite patience and stoic concentration, until you have the technique down anyway.
