Default Fly Rod Help

Sorry for this last minute request but anyway...
My brother is flying in from Norman OK tomorrow(the 25th). He is going to be needing a fly rod so first thing is we go shopping. I haven't shopped for flyrods in ages. What is out there for less than 50bucks? Under 100bucks? Any trustworthy brandnames to look for? To lookout for? What stores do you reccommend? Any comment's on River City, Gi Joes, Sportsman's, Fisherman's and their stock?

What are you fishing for? Trout? Steelhead?
I recommend the house brand at GI Joes if you want to stay within your budget. I thing they are called NorthXNorthwest or Custom Made. River City Fly Shop is an excellent place to go and I'm sure Don Nelson, the owner, can help you out also

I second Stew. NxNW rods at GiJOES. I own a few and they are terrific rods for the money. They run about 70.00 Great action, crisp casting, and
good looking too. You can spend less, like 50 or so but you will be happier in the long run with this better quality set up.
Fly shops are great too, very knowlegable guys. Problem you'll possibly run into is finding a selection of rods under 100. They tend to carry higher end, higher quality rods. Does he have a reel, joes has a decent selection of them under 100 to, you should be able to find a decent one for about 50.00.
Good luck!

When I broke my favorite 4 wt rod this spring, I found a very nice Reddington at GI Joe's for $69.

I suggest that you ask the clerk to let you line a rod and take it out behind the store. That way you can judge the purchase by quick experience instead of chuck-and-chancing it by buying just a name. Sportsman's, Fisherman's and Joes have all let me do this in the past.
