Default metolius

Fished alingham down to bridge 99 yesterday. Caught a dozen or so rainbows above the gorge. Caught most of the 'bows on a size 10 golden stone nymph witha size 14 trailing flash back p.t. Caught a pile o whitefish and one small bull down by the hatchery. Nice day to be on the river and just about doubled my best day so far on the metolius!

Metolius is a great place to fish. It's just a bonus if you also catch fish. Way to go.

I used to just enjoy a nice peaceful day on the met. but being shut out countless times made me vengeful. I took great pleasure in each one of those snobby stuck up fish that I impaled!!! Hoping to impale a few more tomorrow.

Hit it again today. Not quite as many fish but spent more time exploring than fishing. Hiked the gorge from the hatchery to smiling water, big disappointment. I think I hooked two fish in that entire stretch. Fast deep water.
Caught most of my fish in the upper river above the gorge today. Same set up as last time. I'm thinking of mountain biking down from 99 next time and fishing that canyon stretch. Anybody done that before?

that's one of those things that's on my "to do" list...I tend to end up the same several spots until I catch a few fish, then I'll start exploring...There are several great spots down below bridge 99...but it's definitely a hike (a Mtn. bike would make it easier, but then I wouldn't be taking my bamboo)...from what I've heard, there a lot of great water even below that, it's just a bit of a hike in between spots...but then again, so few people venture that far down, it could be worth it.

I heard there is some good water below bridge 99 for about a mile and then the river gets very fast and hard to fish. I have fished a little ways below the bridge with good results.

I believe that they were all redsides. I think that they are the same strain as the deschutes fish and crooked river fish?

Fished last weekend from 99 bridge down. Not a great trip for catching fish. Second day was a wash after getting carried away with the whiskey. Argh. Decent caddis hatch coming off - fish rising sporadically, caught one on a small mayfly and the rest on nymphs. Some older gentlemen did better that we did, broke off what looked like a rather large bull. Good luck!

I've noticed a good number of may flies coming off as well but no risers so haven't bothered with the dries yet. I did pretty well right above 99 bridge and directly below last time I was in there. How far down river did you go? I've hiked quite a ways up from the lake and found some good water but have never hiked down from 99.

My dork-o-meter (GPS) said I turned around about 1mi downstream of the bridge. Some pretty good water down there but after about 1/2 mile it becomes more sporadic. I wouldn't go any further and about 1/2 mi unless you are feeling adventurous and looking to spend most of your time hiking rather than fishing.
