Default Dry Creek Campground

Has anyone fished this area of the Deschutes recently? It can be good during the heat of summer. Can also be a little "snakey". Haven't been there this year and am curious. Thanks.

Hi ripnlips, the fishing in the DryCreek area has been good of late,Caddis in the am and evening and small pupa's and b/h pheasant tails during the day. I float past the camp ground 3-4 times a week and hardly ever see any on there during the week, I do not know what it is like on weekends as i try to keep off the river then. DryCreek was where i caught my first Deschutes river Redside 15 years ago and i used to fish it a lot, now i just float down to that area and fish it. I do know that during the week any one down there will have it all to them selves and enjoy some great fishing. Just remember to buy the Warm Springs Permit or it could turn costly tight lines, brian

It is barren compared to the other side of the river...mostly due to the fact that it's a bit harder to find and the potential intimidation factor of the local constituency sometimes is a bit too much for one to "discount" into their fishing trip. That being said, I've camped there on several occasions without incident, mountain biked down the fine, soft dusted downriver road, encountered many a small skittish rattler, and busted on many large fish. One just has to weigh the worry factor of the car (and stuff) they've left behind versus the competition-on-the-river factor of Mecca...I only float that section (WS to TW) nowadays, but would always prefer a bit of risk (non-quantifiable) versus what I consider Mecca Flats meham and Kookism.
As always, -tight lines-

edit....barren in regards to fisherman vs the other side, rather than barren of fish.
