140 hp suzuki will not go in gear

I have a 2005 suzuki when I put into forward or reverse it clicks like it is going to but doesnt. It just clicks even though the trottle goes up. I checked cable it moves back and forth alright . Any Ideas? Thanks, JohnRemote control box

Never had a big suzi, and you don't say if tiller or remote, but there should be a linkage that runs down the shaft of the motor. Somewhere in there there is a coupling connecting the shaft from the lower unit to the shift mechanism, lever or cable. Anyways that's a place to start.
