Default Canby Pond

If you haven't heard, the Canby pond is now for youth 17yrs and under, and holders of Oregon handicapped fishing licenses only.

I invite you to come on down with your kids, or join the other handicapped fishers utilizing this area. You can easily fish from a wheelchair, or use the fenced paved platfrom area for steady ground to fish from.

Early mornings and late evenings are best for flinging, as use is very light at these times.

I would like to answer any questions you have about flyfishing at this exciting new fishery.

The pond holds: Stocked and holdover Trout, Small and Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Goldfish, Bluegill, Crappie, and other suprises!

Mitch

Mitch,
My son is 7 and is a new flyfisher (read no one should be too close by). We live within 30 mins of the pond. Do you think this might be a place he could practice and have a chance at catching something? I tie flies so if there was a particular fly you would suggest please do. Thanks for the timley post. I am trying to figure out something to do with him during Spring Break.

Perfect timing, later next week I am gathering young flyfishers to hit the pond early and late in the day. The pellethead fly has been suggested for the stocked Trout. But there are also Bluegill and Bass. Your best bet for flinging clearance is using the area with a wooden fence when no one else is fishing there. He might need to stand on a box, its a little tall.
In the very early and late hours, walking near shore on the rest of the pond should work fine. Thanks for your interest!

Mitch
