Default Where are the trout?

Is Central Oregon the only gig around here for trout? Just wondering if anyone catches trout within two hours of Portland?

Thx,

Hoc

You might try rivers or lakes.

Funny responses! There are several places to catch trout within driving distance from Portland. Promontory Park is a good place to go, or Lake Harriett, Timothy Lake, Hagg Lake..all are here in Oregon... Washington has several lakes close enough too..to get into trout. All along hwy 14 there are lakes...with trout in them..stocked regularly..along with Goose Lake (North of Carson) Kidney lake (just east of Beacon Rock)...and Battle Ground lake...in Battleground. Use any of those names in the Search option on this site and you will find some usefull information. Good luck fishing!!

The Mollala and the Clackamas have loads of trout in them. Them size is not much, but you can have a lot of fun...you release them anyway don't you? I've caught some nice trout on the Clack while steelheading. I just bring my trout gear and toss a few casts in the heat of the day.......once in awhile you get a beauty....like the 18" one my son got a few years back. FR

Coastal streams are full of native cutts willing to the fly. Lotsa little guys but sea-runs are always in there. Switch to swinging flies like a Spruce fly and you can bugger the big boys, some go over 20" but you will have to work a lot of water to get them. You also may hook a Summer Steelhead doing this so up your tippet strength a bit, at least 4-6lb.
