Not good news
Found out today that my dad's cancer has spread to his liver and lungs. They will do an MRI and bone scan to see if it is in his brain or bones, as well.
Prayers for his comfort and peace of mind would be much appreciated.

Well, Melissa, your dad has been dealing with that darned stuff for quite awhile now, hasn't he...Its hard to watch and not be able to "fix it" for him, I bet. If its any consolation, from your posts on here showing how much you care, you have been a very good daughter to him. That has got to bring him happiness and put a smile on his face during all the ugly stuff.
You, your dad, and your family certainly have our prayers.

Thanks, everybody.
Whew. What a day. Fun, sunny day at the aquarium and beach with my kids and some friends. Then come home to this. In addition, my mom is having some tests that could determine whether or not we will have to go thru this scenario all over again.
I take comfort in something our pastor said at Bible study tonight. "God is not surprised by what is happening in our lives." So very true.

Thanks again for all the prayers. Dad has been in the hospital in Portland since Friday, and has started treatments. They gave him two units of blood, also. They did find more cancer in his bones, but his color and appetite are better than they have been in a while. He really likes his doctor there, and has been told that the treatment is to "lick it," as my mom said.
I would be so happy if he could just live until he was 70. Four more years seems like a lot to ask, but nothing is impossible. Told him he can watch all the Andy Griffith reruns he wants, but no more news. Gotta keep his spirits up.
It's a day-to-day thing, and all we can do is put our trust in God and His plan for my dad.

Thought I would post a short update on my folks.
Mom does not have cancer. They did find a pre-cancerous polyp, and may have to schedule surgery depending on whether or not they can remove it entirely.
Dad had his second round of treatment this weekend, and is doing great. He will have one more treatment session in two weeks, then do a scan to see if the tumors have shrunk.
Things are looking a little less bleak than they did a few weeks ago. We are very thankful for his oncologist, whose optimism has even spread to dad. Hope is a good thing.

this is wonderful news-so glad dad seems to have made a connection with the Doc & has tolerated treatments!
Great for Mom as well-maybe having this baseline will be of some real benefit. hope removal is very uneventful.
