Default Alaska

Ok, just a few more days till I'll be up in Alaska putting the hurt on the salmon.
I'll be fly fishing for pinks, chums and silvers.
Theirs this creek that flows right into salt water. So the fish that I be catching are salt water fresh fish. I know with thousands of fish in the stream that most fish will be lined, but I wanna try to get them in the salt there at the mouth of the creek. I wanna feel one pound a fly. So my question to you is: What would you use? I'll have my hands on a boat too. In the next couple of days I'm gonna be getting some fly and I want to know what I should get. Also what kinda of fly line should I use?
Also, I'll be fishing it most the time when the tide is coming in. Cause that's when the fish move up stream. And thats when I'll be able to go out.

Thanks

Take several lines. Much of your fishing can be done with a floating line...but take a sink tip, and a high-speed sinking shooting head. Use that line with a very short leader...three feet or so.

Many flies will work...pick larger, bright colored steelhead or Coho flies. Pinks and Chums aren't particular. To be prepared for a variety of conditions you might take a few weighted patterns as well as non-weighted. Silvers are fairly aggressive biters and along with the Chums will give you the best action.

Large flash-buggers (tied with estaz or material like it) in purple, pink, and chartruse for all three salmon. You can also use some pink pollywogs for a chance at some surface action. I've hooked chum and silvers topside with the pollywog up there.

Thanks for the tips. I have a little better idea on what to take up there.

We were also thinking on playing around for the silvers out in the bays. Was gonna hook up the fly rod to the downriger. Anyone got any ideas to that? I don't. I was gonna use my Lamiglas 6wt just cause its a little more limber.
