Default Vacationing on the Deschutes

I'm leaving Saturday to stay on the Deschutes near Bend for a few days. Will be fishing on East Lake also. Any suggestions for flys to use?

Over on Westfly, in the past two weeks there's been a bunch of posts about East Lake; sounds like it's the best bet now for lake fishing, with the other high lakes doing so poorly (except for Hosmer, although while fun and scenic, I don't consider it to be a 'big trout' kind of place).

Have fun, looking forward to your report!

The Teeny nymph is a standard.

Olive Bully Wugger, Uh, I mean Wooly Bugger is probably the most standard fly there is for fishing the cascade lakes. This time of year you will get calibaetis hatches going so some good calibaetis nymph, emergent, cripple and dry patterns should all work at different times throughout the day.

Chirominids are a major must for a cascade lakes flybox. Use the ones that suspend vertically in the surface film. (I can't remember the exact name of the pattern but they have a white foam head on them. I absolutely tore up the fish at Hosmer on those weekend before last.

Calebatis in size #18 seemed to be the fly for East Lake. Of course I didn't have any when I fished it last night but did manage to coax three small trout to elk hair caddis.
