Played shutes and ladders with a 5 lb. summer steelhead on the Sandy River this morning. This fish beat me up

 . I hooked it in a fairly shallow run ahead of about 200 yards of shutes and rapids and this steelhead made me chase him through all of it. Quite the spectacle. What made it difficult was that the fish got to rest after everytime it took me down to the next pool - as I fumbled around rocks, etc. to catch up to it and gain line. Then it would do it to me again. Would have helped if I had a disc drag on my reel and a rod that wasn't so soft. Got a love those Tiemco hooks - really stick!
In the end, I won the game  . The river looks good - clear with just a tinge of glacial color. Earlier, I hooked and lost one that was in the 10 lb plus range. Found a rock and cut me off.
I hooked the larger one on a double egg pattern and the one I landed on a small glo-bug. Both were on a dropper behind a larger, weighted fly.
I usually do not have outings like this. Nice to score on the home water.
