Default coastal springer ?

Dad & I have flyfished from southern Ore. to Alaska for salmon & steelhead but the one thing we haven't done is fished for springers on the trask or wilson & would like to. So if some one could help out that would be great.

When does the run usually start & end & what are some of your favorite patterns. I'm not looking for your rock on the river, just a little info please.

It's hard to belive that I have 30 & he has 50 years of flytying & flyfishing experience & have never fished for springers.

If you are willing to give out a few secrets then please pm me & I wont tell a soul.

thanks, Geoff

Fish falling water. Springers will sometimes hold in shallower water that you can effectively fish with a fly.

I like soft hackles tied on large, short shanked hooks. Small egg patterns also work.

Remember that Chinook, and especially Springers have a small strike radius. Normally you need to get the fly within six inches of their nose to provoke a strike.

I like Kingfisher Blue, Chartreuse and my Olive Shrimp for Springers. Olive Shrimp

This Springer swallowed the Olive Shrimp; it was hooked on the back of the tongue.

PM sent.

I have caught them accidentally on the lower Nestucca while after summer steelies. Not sure what the current status of the hatchery program is down that-a-way.
