Default Brown drakes on Silver Creek

Wow last night the brown drake hatch on silver creek was awesome. It was the first time I had ever experienced it. Big fish galore. Better call in sick and get over there as it should be over within a day or two.

South Fork Boise River : Had a few good reports over this last week. Still looks like nymph fishing is the best option. With that being said, don’t be shy about throwing some attractors dry flies like stimulators, tarantulas, and black cicada patterns. Caddis are starting and we should see the big hatches soon.

Flows: A little over 600 cfs- good fishing. Remember to be courteous if you are floating, it’s really close quarters with the lower flows.

Flies: Copper johns ( sz 16-18), pheasant tail nymphs, hares ear nymphs, stonefly nymphs ( sz 4-8), caddis larva (sz14-16), elk hair caddis ( sz 14-16), stimulators (10-14), tarantulas (sz 8-12), black cicadas ( sz 10).

Hey there Mr.BT, thanks for the Silver Creek report - a first for this board I believe.

Could you provide us with an update on the condition of the S.FK.Boise?

I've heard it's really suffered from the prolonged drought over there, that Anderson Valley Res. was fully drawn down last year. So how are the trout (if any are left) doing?

I fished Silver Creek on Monday & Tuesday (June 2nd and 3rd). I only saw one brown drake on the water on Monday. The PMD hatch from about 10 to 11 in the morning on Tuesday was a cloud of bugs. I caught some small fish, but failed to fool the big ones. There was a large fish nicely placed above me and it would come up about every five or ten minutes and snarf down about a dozen surface flies, then disappear again.

It is a thrill to fish over large rising fish. What a thrill it will be someday to hook and land one. I did hook a strong fish at dusk on Tuesday but never saw it before it got off. I am sure it was huge and will continue to grow in my memory.
