Default Laurence Lake

I went up there Saturday to check it out for the ifish get together (If we are still on). The fish are ready and willing. I fished from 7:30 AM to noon and hooked at least 30 fish. The average size was about 11 inches the biggest was about 16.
The water is pretty high this year.

I am going to show up at Laurence around 6:30 on Saturday morning. The wind usually starts up around noon but most of the time it doesn't get bad enough to shut down the fishing.

Directions to the lake. From Highway 35 (The one that goes between Hood River and Mount Hood Meadows) Take the Parkdale exit. Go into Parkdale. Turn left at the intersection in the middle of town where the school is. Go about 2 miles and take a right on Laurence Lake Drive. A good meeting place is the lower boat ramp. Go past the Kinikinik Picnic area and take a right right before the gate go 50 yards and you are at the boat ramp.

There appears to be a few good camping spots. The sign says it is a picnic area but I did not see any signs that said no overnight camping. There is also a couple of fairly clean outhouses there.

The flies that worked best for me were
Bead Head Flashback Hares Ears
Beadhead Pheasant Tails
Olive Beadhead Wooly Buggers
There was a small chirominid hatch and I also noticed some fairly large black caddis hatching (about a size 12).

Hope to see some of you there.

Fantastic! Thanks Tanner. I'm planning on being there Friday night to Sunday morning. Is there a firepit? If so, I'll bring wood. Let me know if anyone wants to carpool.

The Columbia Gorge Fly Fishermen (and woman - women?) will be up there on Saturday as well. We're having a BBQ with all the fixins.

I think it's this Saturday... Hell, I'll go anyway!

Tanner, thanks for setting this up. That report really hurts as I have to back out. One of the scouts in my son's troop is having his Eagle Scout project this Saturday. Friday night is the 8th grade dance and I just got word duty calls helping out with that event as well (my wife is in charge of getting volunteers). Ah, the blessings of having kids. It is a good thing.

I was looking forward to meeting everyone. I am sure a good time will be had by all.

Greenbuttskunk -- Thanks for the offer of the boat. Perhaps we can hook up some other time.

Lil North Fork,
There is a few spots with pretty nice firepits. Also the Lake is only like 15 minutes from Parkdale where they have a general store. Look forward to seeing you guys there. Shane, Aare you gonna be there???????

True - There was another Fly Club up there this last Saturday. Northwest Fly Fishers out of Troutdale. It seems like a popular place for fly clubs to go.

Navigator, sorry you can't make it. My 8th grader just had his graduation dance last Friday so I hear ya man.

My son and I will be there on Saturday and then I think we might head to Badger Lake. I have never been there but have always wanted to try it.

I have not been there in a few years but I have had great luck in the late afternoon on dries. Sometimes I use a wet fly dropper off of the dry. There were a few times I couldn't keep the fish off! I have done this at the inlet end of the lake. Have fun and good luck!

Tanner, I'll tell you about Badger when I see you sat. Nav., if you need a pontoon to borrow in the future let me know. It's still available if anyone else needs one.
