Default Timothy Lake

I'm thinking about joining some freinds ,mid June for a day at Timothy Lake. I've fly fished a lot of the lakes around there ,but not Timothy. So I know generally the flies and such, but would be happy to hear from anyone with locations on the lake and just stories in general. My freinds don't fly fish and i would like to get them interested.

Thanks

There is a big crawdad population in the lake. If you go into River City Fly shop on the counter there is a photo of a guy at Timothy with a HUGE trout. Next to it are some crawdad flies the guy tied. you may want to tie some or buy some.

I fish the west bank just past the dam. There are a ton of stumps along the shore for your fly to get caught on so beware. I use seal buggers, midge nymphs, wet flies, and some times dries. I don't have the lake figured out but I would guess that there are more than a few big fish in there.

There used to be a steelhead"jig guy who also wrote a lake fishing book here in Oregon. Bradbury? Anyway, he included timothy as having a nice population of large Brookies and rainbows.
Yes, this trip sounds good. Nice going Jake!
Give away all my secret spots! (Ho, Ho)
Old timers have often spoken of the GREAT fishing which was had in that upper valley before timothy was created.

i'd fish some leech patterns on an int. sinking line, plus fish some streamer patterns. Chronomids in the eve., but later in the summer. There are some heavy fish in there, so size the tippets accordingly. I've fish other lakes up there but it's been a few years since i've hit T. Good luck!

I have caught some real nice rainbows out of Timothy and there is a large population of Kokanee. What I have noticed over the years of fishing there,is that
the fishing is good till about 10:00 am and then the wind kicks up and its over till late afternoon or early evening. The wind is like clockwork, its like someone flips a switch. Stumps everywhere and trees galore at the waters edge with just a few areas that would be usable for fly fishing, unless you have something that floats. Bring a spinning combo to increase the ability to fish more areas of the lake from the bank. I have caught nearly all my fish on spinners and although this my not sound very fun to you, I have also caught lots of fish (Kokes and trout) on a single egg hook with a single egg. Do not use Pete's or Mike's eggs, you'll waste your time. Pautzkie's eggs just work amazingly well on the lake and I have no idea what the difference is between Pautzkie eggs and the other brands. The crawdads are thick and I would suggest dropping a trap for a tasty treat to go with some of that great cold water trout.

p.s. We use a punctured can of Whiska's cat food for the crab trap and it works awesome.
