Metolius Report
Thanks for all the helpful replies last week. The fishing report is as follows: Spent two to four hours each day (5/17 to 5/19) on the water. There was a BWO hatch each day starting around 11:30. Not a large number of bugs hatching and there wasn't much fish activity at the surface. I only managed 1 or 2 fish each day, all on a PT below a golden stonefly (or legal split shot as the guy at Camp Sherman Store called them). Fished at Allingham Bridge, Allen Springs CG, and Lower Canyon Creek CG.
For those of you who gave me suggetstions on where to take my father, the best place turned out to be below below Allingham Bridge. Its a grassy meadow and my dad could cast right from the trail. Its funny how life comes around full circle. When I was little my dad had to tie all my hooks, undo my snags, and keep me from falling into the river. Now, with my dad starting his 83rd year, the roles have reversed. I had to tie all his hooks, keep him from falling off the Allingham Bridge, and untangle his line from the same bush again and again. It really made me appreciate what he did for me when I was young.
One more thing. Does anyone know anything about the abandoned house at the top of the gorge on the east side - on Road 400? The view from the house is amazing. Is it for sale? It looks like you would have to tear it down and start from scratch.
