Default Deschutes report

Fished the Big D below Maupin Wednesday. Saw one salmonfly and several gold stoneflies. There was a small hatch of pale morning duns and some caddis. Fished nymphs in the morning, nothing. Switched to elk hair caddis in the afternon and caught a couple. Missed two really nice fish because I had too much slack, they rose right after the fly settled on the water. Nice day and not many people out. Broke my beloved 4 weight fly rod, bummer.

Bummer Marko:
I know what it is like to break a good rod. I broke 3 of them last year.......after going for 20 years without breaking a rod. Can't wait for the "big bugs" to come out. Fishrite

Fly rod lesson #5642A: Buy rods that are covered under a warranty of at least 25 years no matter what you do.

I stepped on my 5 wt. Orvis rod as I was hopping in the back of my truck. (We just moved down the road 2 miles from our spot). Snap. Duh. Sent it there and got it back within a couple months. Warranties, don't leave home without them.

Hey Catch: Have you been to the "Big D" yet? I missed it last year altogether. Sickness in the family...missed everything...Deer Hunting, Elk Hunting, even had a chance to go antelope hunting with my brother....missed that too. I can't wait for the "hatch" this year....Good luck to you, Fishrite

Not yet!1 I'm so due. I just started a new job and it's taking alot of hours to get to where I'm comfortable. I've been hearing some good reports of bugs in the water. However, not many hatched yet. This could be the week though.
