Default Barney Reservoir

Greetings all - long time listener, first time caller.....

Has anybody fished Barney Res. in the Oregon Coastal foothills (headwaters to the N Fork Trask)? It aways up there on several miles of gravel roads.

Looks real nice up there, but I'm looking for any information anyone might have. What I know is:
- It is listed in the ODFW regs as catch and release only for trout.
- It isn't currently stocked by ODFW.
- The dam there was raised several years ago, before which the water level was drawn down quite a bit for the construction.
- The drought conditions over the past few years has kept the water level below normal (although it's close to capacity now.)
- There is no fish access from the river into the reservoir.

It would seem to be good trout habitat, but with the low water levels over the last few years it's not likely to have carried over many trout from whatever population may have existed before due to low water levels.

Regards,

Kurt

Well, Kurt I have fished this place several times. and our club fished it once. there are some nice fish in there for sure, but you can put in alot of searching to find them. My best luck was by the outlets and inlets. purple wooly buggers and egg sucking leeches worked for me. Very fishy looking place. Good luck!

DeeFly -

Thanks for the info. It's good to know that there are at least some fish in there.

I went looking for it the other day thinking it was sort of close in to the metro area, but with all of the backroads it actully took quite a while to get up there - I could have got to just about anywhere on the Wilson in the same amount of time.

I was on a limited time schedule when I went up there, and by the time I found it, I only had a few minutes to fish before I headed back - tried an olive wooly bugger to no avail.

Thanks again for the info.
