Default ethanol fuel

now that ethanol is at all gas stations now ,does anyone know how that is going to affect 2 stroke motors as i know that it burns a leaner , i do know in our snowmobiles on efi modles you need to uplg a wire to the ecu and carb modles call for size bigger jets, so was just wondering about my 225 2-stroke,would really hate to burn it down . any thoughts ??? thanks

While you'll hear horror stories about ethanol from areas that are new to it, the locations where its been required for decades have few issues and there is little thought wasted on what "might" happen.

The only real concern is that it can clean the gunk out of your tank better than most other things will, this may plug up your fuel filter, so just replace it. If you don't have a fuel/water separator, install one today.

If you're concerned about ethanol in fuel, I understand that some fuel distributors are now selling ethanol-free gas for recreational use. You don't have to go to a marina to get it either. For example, Sheldon Oil in Tillamook is/will be selling it soon.

One of the major problems with ethanol is that it will disolve the older glass tanks. We watched my outboards after they started using ethanol again in fuel and found that their was disolved resin appearing in the filters. This resulted in pulling the fuel tank out of the boat, and repairing of the caburetors on my three outboards.
