Default Getting the "bug"

I have a little time about the middle of May to do some bug fishing in the northwest corner of the state. Can anyone can tell me what water has the best potential? And what type of flies to use? Prefer the small to medium size rivers where I can tromp the banks. I'm getting the bug.

CW,
Not sure what you are fishing for. Most of the main rivers offer good trout fishing further upstream. The Wilson, Necanicum, Nehalem. The Smith offers Sea-run fish if you are looking for something larger. Lakes like Coffenbury offer lots of fun for warm water types. So much to choose, so little time.

NW corner of what state, oregon? I don't know washington well. There are many choices, but mostly central towards the cascades. Deschutes,
metolius. The santiam has some fish, the Mekenzie can be good.not sure if you are looking for something the central. True NW does'nt have really great bug fishing. There are some fish in the clackamas, and some mt. hood lakes have some decent fishing if you have a tube or pontoon. Where exacly are you referring too? I can steer you in the right direction with more info.

I may be biased, but you can't go wrong with the Deschutes. Stone flies on the bottom with a mayfly nymph dropper will get you fish. Depending on water temperature and what part of the river, you fish there may be an early adult emergence and it's possible to have a great day fishing on top with big stumulators or sofa pillows. There are miles of bank to tromp as well. I would suggest the lower water below Sherars falls in mid-May.
