Default Bucktailing for Coho?

Anyone ever gone bucktailing for cohos in the open ocean, specifically on the central Oregon coast? I've read several small internet articles about doing it (mostly in British Columbia). Is it effective here? Any pointers?

Think Seiku. Think September. Think 20lb coho, on the surface, smacking your fly. See you there!

Seiku? Where's that? I'm all ears. I've used small yarn flies in the rivers with some success but a slow troll with a 600gr line or caasting and retrieving might work. Hmmm.

Sekiu is in the Straight of Juan DeFuca in NW washington. Its a small coastal town that has great fishing for when the runs of salmon start to return to the rivers.

Bucktailing is a lot of fun. I usually like to do it to find where the fish are and then cast and retrieve over the school.
The speed I go, the fly makes a little wake but doesn't break the surface. I use a floating line for bucktailing and a 9' leader.

Heck, you have the standard Puget Sound Coho trolling fly. Called the Coho Fly. Would use on standard downrigger rods and troll them. Just a simple hook with bucktail in two tone. Usually a green bucktail top, white bucktail bottom. Colors can change depending on prefered colors. I used this for surface coho with a sinktip line. Most of the coho we caught was near the surface with flies, but have done a modified "fly downrigging" where we attached the release clip to the edge of leader at flyline (which was a full sink tip line. Worked great.
