McKenzie Camping?
i'm planning of camping and flyfishing on the McKenzie in late June. Does anyone care to share preferred campgrounds and fishing stretches or ones to avoid. Any help is appreciated!

Re: McKenzie Camping?
Whopper,
I take my family to Paradise Campground every year. It is one of our favorites for the whole family. I see boats coming down through the campground, but have never had much luck myself fishing the area.

Re: McKenzie Camping?
Paradise campground is probably one of the best all around settings in the state of Oregon. you have to love the Mckenzie!!! You can literally camp on the waters edge. Be careful if you have children with you as the water is VERY swift moving through there!! There is a boat launch at the upper end of the park. Many rafters and drift boats. There are many hiking trails, and a 22 mile single track mountain bike trail that follows the rivers edge. You will go back every year!!! We do.

Re: McKenzie Camping?
god, I wish I could tell you accurately how to find this sweet honey of a camping spot I stumbled upon. It's right across the road from the M. You turn right on this dirt road and another immediate right onto a smaller unimproved road that leads in about 100 yards to a site next to a stream. The stream is faily small, but loaded with wild cuts and some bows. It's very private and perfect next to the stream.

Re: McKenzie Camping?
KK, You are exactly right it is 'the best setting in Oregon'.
GBS, Across from the M.? McKenzie? How high up? Any landmarks?
Whopper, I would suggest reserving a camp site early, they book up quick.

Re: McKenzie Camping?
yep across from the mckenzie. If I drove there I'd surely remember where it was. The little creek is full of small but beautiful trout. It's a sweet spot. wish I could be more specific. I'd have to look on a map and than I could tell you where the forest service road is. The dirt road leading to the site is only about 20 feet in off the service road.

Re: McKenzie Camping?
Delta Campground, about 5 miles east of Blue River at the Mouth of the S. Fork Mckenzie, is gorgeous too, and probably a little more consistent hatch on that section of river. Old growth fir and cedar, meandering sloughs, and great trials nearby.
Lots of Green and Brown Caddis that time of year, some Golden Stones, and some Green Drake Mayflies as well. Try some of the spurs and backsides of islands of the Mckenzie for numerous cutthroat and some dandy redsides
Don't overlook Horse Creek for some good, if sometimes spotty trout fishing in a small stream. Absolutely breathtaking.

Re: McKenzie Camping?
Belnap hot springs is about ten miles above the town of Mckinzey bridge. I think it has a hot springs swimming pool and hook ups or cabins. Its right on the river also, the fishing i'm not sure about.

Re: McKenzie Camping?
I've never stayed at Belknap, but in late June and early July, I used to park on their access road, at the trailhead and then hike the McKenzie River Trail downstream for some very good Green Drake fishing in the boulder gardens.
