Your Weekly Carp Report!
Yesterday afternoon upon my return from the coast, guess who was waiting for me? tails-a- waggin' shallow water jumpin' big @$$ carp!!! Whoooo whooo! They were in 1-2 feet of water just cruising around feeding. For this type of situation I go with a 'soft hackle' style fly. It looks like a red midge (tightly wound red floss on a wet fly hook) but I put a wrapping of partridge for hackle this looks like a soft hackle-wetfly-midge pattern???? (go figure) also to make it sit up like a critter in the middle of the water channel trying to get to the surface.
Well, that's what they wanted! My first cast I led a slow cruiser by about 4 feet. Letting the fly slowly slink mid depth so hopefully by the time he would be cruising to it, it would be at his depth (about 1 foot) PERFECT! I did a tiny "micro-retrieve" twitch and that was all it took. First a nice slow tug......then, "zzzzzipzzzzzzwwwwip!!!!" Away he goes! Let him strip line as he wants because with this 3x leader any pressure from me will "snap" him off. The little Pflueger did her job & ropped him in. He was a8-10 pounder @ 22-23 inches. Nice fish!
Oh, ps...Many of you have asked me if I eat the carp. NO. I do not eat the carp. Nor do I eat the trout or steelhead I catch.
"And that's all the news that is good Carp-G'News!"

Re: Your Weekly Carp Report!
Andy
ever seen carp hangng around the overhanging bery trees up in the gorge?? I stumbeled across some last july whild smallmouth fishing. I got my wolley bugger caught in the tree ( didn;t notice the carp at the time) so i shake the fly out and all these long black berries fall into the water and all of a sudden i see all these lips sucking down the berrys. In goes my black wolley bugger, high sticking it to keep it in the surface.. slurp wait wait wait fish turns set.. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ my hardy princess screams as a 10lber bolts for open water then comes off. hooked 3-4 more soon after.. berrys? who'd have thunk?

Re: Your Weekly Carp Report!
Andy: thanks for the report.
Keep us advised. Maybe a mini flotilla for those wishing to try it one time.

Re: Your Weekly Carp Report!
Got the carp fever bigtime this morning. Went to a spot near Collwood golf course where I had seen carp rising before...a slough...parts of which pass under the road leading to the airport.
The water was a little muddy so I couldn't see fish but did see disturbances in the shallow water. Threw a white bugger dipped in secret sauce (vanella extract)at em' and crawled it back with slow strips. Bingo! Three fish...one went a good 7-8 arty lbs.

Re: Your Weekly Carp Report!
Lots of talk bout catching freshwater bonefish on a fly and I would like to try it out. My question is what are the top 5-10 flies used to catch carp??? And mabey a couple of places would be great too. I am all in for a flotilla!!!

>>freshwater bonefish<<
More like fishing for reds. They rip off a good amount of line, then settle in for a tug of war. So far, I've only cought them on buggers, hare's ears and prince nymphs. But, that doesn't mean other stuff won't work. I think next time around I'm gonna try a water boatman.

Re: Your Weekly Carp Report!
God, I wanna try this. Anbody want to take a newbie out. I've caught just about everything else, but not a carp on a fly, only corn or doughballs in the past. Would love to join somebody. bbaker@tubeart.com
Thanks,
Brad
