Default Sturgeon line, what kind?

I just bought a sturgeon rod and reel. The reel is a Shakespeare Tidewater TW50LA conventional. It says it can hold 330 yards of 30lb test.

What type, strength, and length of line do I need? Any help is appreciated. Thanks..

80 pound tuff and dacron leaders (50lbs) Remember....there is a lot fo stretch when you have over 50-100+ feet of line out.

Yup as said above Tuffline PLUS 65#
The plus has a coating or something that doesn't sound like a saw or file in going through your guides.
It is also mono friendly so the guy next to you if using mono will have little worry about cross overs that will usually cut mono and loose there terminal end

I like 50# mono. I found that the line breaks that I had with mono were all in the last 10 feet of the mainline due to the Sturg. rolling around on the rocks, etc. To correct this I now use a 20 foot section of 100# dacron at the end of my mainline. This goes to a heavy swivel, then the actual leader.
If you are in fast water, the bigger diameter mainlines (80# dacron, 50# mono) will require a bigger cannonball to keep it down. This can get pretty expensive.
If you can afford it, a small diameter, high strength line like tuf line will help you use smaller leads.

Just starting out sturgeon fishing from the bank and had maxima 30lb on when I first put line on...a couple weeks later I went to 50lb test and use the 30lb as dropper for my lead or railroad spike. with the 30lb main it just did not feel strong enough to whip a spike out there... I use a penn 505hs reel with a 12 foot 15 - 50lb ugly sick.

I guess I'm frugal (wife says cheap) I put 100 yds of 50# Tuff line on a new reel, then fill it the rest of the way with 80# Western fillement dacron. I reel it off onto a spare reel, and then back onto the new reel. I don't see the need for filling a reel up with tufline, when I'm only gonna use the last 50yds most of the time. I respool the tuff line every year. I'm suprised they still make mono line, not on my reels!
