Is it in the water or on the trailer? (while it looses bottom)

When running on the water, if you have the transducer level to the bottom, you will often get air bubbles under it which would cause the problem. A very slight angle for the transducer will keep the turbulance from under the transducer.

Keep adjusting the tansducer angle until the problem goes away. Also make sure the line with the bottom of the transducer is slightly under the hull. Also make sure there is nothing under the hull in line with the transducer which could create turbulance.

All of the above suggestions are normally found in the owners manual.

It's in the water when I have the problems I have tried adjusting the transducer to no avail it seems to happen even when I am just drifting not to mention on the troll I will keeeeep tinkering with teh trancducer, but any other ideas would be appreciated. I have read the manual and have considered interference from another source but can't seem to find any obvious problems. I have installed several other fish finders on other boats and have never found the transducer to be that fickle maybe this one is different.
Thanks
wes

Try turning down your sensitivity. Also make sure face of transducer is parallel to the bottom of the lake. Also needs to have "clean" water pssing over it when underway. Hope this helps.

Its probably not in the water far enough. Or the transducer is mounted directly behind a strake causing turbulance under it.

Keep us posted.........

If the issue is only when your underway, then it's installation LOCATION or a mis-alignment issue. It is not the sounder settings, ie, gain.

I don't think it an installation problem with the transducer I replaced an old finder with this one. The old finder worked great and this one is in the the exact same spot. I think I will reset it to how it came from the factory maybe I changed a setting by mistake it is so hard to work on these things unless you are on the water even then with the offshore platform it is hard to adjust the transducer when on the water. Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Wes

if I set my Lowrance transducer to 50 megahertz I lose bottom at full speed. you may have the settings wrong. I would try 200 megahertz if you have the option.

Are using a GSD 21 or a GSD 22 ?

Try doing a SW update..

I have to assume that you've checked the input power, battery condition, and xducer/unit connectors for bent pins. If all that checks out...

If you are using the GSD22, then your issue is not an uncommon one. It's the way some of them perform. Let Garmin know.

I have the GSD 22 that tracks bottom at 45mph, a little bit of noise on the screen but never looses bottom.
Well there was that time I ran over a tree limb and it knock the transducer off.
Try the update.

NOW I would call Garmin. They'll send you a chip and you might have to put down a deposit. The effort it would take to explain over the phone would best be left to Garmin to explain.
