garage door rod rack
http://www.ifish.net/uploads/33302053.jpg
I hope this works it took me over an hour to figure out this picture thing. This is the rod rack I made for my new house it hold's 28 rods and doesn't get in the way of the garage door. The best thing is,it only cost 30.00 and about an hour of my time. Thanks goes out to a fellow ifisher who had the idea using pvc pipe.I just used a door knob kit and drilled holes.

Re: garage door rod rack
I have got pretty much the same thing, but I used a piano hinge and a rope and pulley setup that allows it to tilt down on the reel end for easy access. Mine holds 24 rods, and I am working on mounting a garage door opener in the attic to raise and lower it.

Re: garage door rod rack
Well, Duh!
Looks almost like the canoe/kayak paddle rack in my garage.
It makes me wonder why I'm still trying to figure out how to hang all my rods in the basement.
Thanks for the idea prompt. Some of my favorite, ingenious concepts come from "garage engineering."

Re: garage door rod rack
I made a similar rack, except I mounted mine to the ceiling above the garage door.

Re: garage door rod rack
Fishnagain,
Thanks for sharing your rack. I have been needed to fix mine.
I noted that your garage door is single wide--I imagine that a double wide would need some type of center support. Without the support, I suspect that the weight of the rods/reels would cause it to sag, and interfere with the operation of the door.
Also, I see that your garage door has the standards windows. Are the windows made opaque some way (paint or other material). The reason that I ask is that it appears that you have displayed your expensive rods/reels at eye height for some burglar could do some "window shopping". Just a thought.

Cubic "Butt-Load" of holes! Got to admire your tenacity! My Grandpa had a similar need and used Ripple cut (Corregated Roofing support) sections glued to a 2x4 support- FAST & Easy...

Fishnagain/Crambone,
I really couldn't tell what was going on in the photo. Could you please post a larger picture and/or additional information.
Thanks, Rich

Re: garage door rod rack
I made a similar rack only without the notches. I hung two pipes 3 feet apart right above where I park my boat so that I can reach up and grab the rods I need.
Yours is much fancier and looks like it would work better. Thanks for sharing.
