Let's prepare for the new board:
Here are some helpful hints you will want to take care of, before we move:
1. DO YOU KNOW YOUR USER INFO AND PASSWORD?
Many users are currently logged in and stay that way. In order to get a copy of your user name and password, (you will NEED to re login,) please log out. Go to the login page , and look for the lost password function. Fill it out with the e mail address that you registered with, and your user information will be sent to you promptly. Save it to your desktop for easy reference when I open the new bulletin board. Believe me, it will help, tons!
2. DO YOU USE ZONE ALARM?
You will need to set up Zone Alarm, or any other internet privacy firewall, to accept the new board. Here is an article in reference:
For ZoneAlarm Pro 3.0:
1. Begin at ZoneAlarm Pro Control Center (if ZAP is minimized to tray, simply right click on the "ZA" symbol and choose "Restore ZoneAlarm Pro Control Center".)
2. From left-hand column, choose "Privacy" (below "Alerts & Logs" and above "Email Protection".)
3. Click menu tab that says "Site List" (next to "Main", under "Help", in right-hand corner.)
4. Click on "Add" button on bottom right corner of Control Center (above "Options".)
5. A box pops up that says "Add sites to your privacy list by entering the URL below" and then asks for "URL".
Type in the URL for the site like: www.ThisSite.com
6. Click "OK".
7. Locate the site you just entered in the list of sites and right click anywhere on that line. You are given the choice of "Remove" and "Options". Choose "Options".
8. You are given the options for the site you just entered. Under the "Cookies" menu, go to the "3rd Party Cookies" section. Uncheck "Remove Private Header Information". Click "Apply" at bottom. Click "OK" at bottom.
If you actually made it through, you should now be able to post at the site you entered without having to disable ZAP or getting the "invalid host" error.

I'm sure we'll be missing a few ifishers until the help team "helps" them!
Make sure and get e mail addresses for all mods, before we move!
OK, when? I dunno. Sometime in the next week, prolly. God willing. Oh yeah, me willing, too... and, if no springers start to show in force, and... if I get enough chocolate... and, if no late nates show up in the Kilchis, and... You get the picture.

Jen-
Do we know if any of these programs similar to the one you mentioned come standard with the most recent versions of Windows?

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
I believe that windows XP comes standard with a firewall of it's own.
ZoneAlarm is an added security application that you purchase extra. At least, last I checked.

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
I need an Internet Connection Firewall to protect my computer from the new board? Excuse me, but this doesn't make sense.
Please explain or point me to the explanation. Thanks!
Nevermind, I think the point was that if I am using a firewall, I need to trust the new site.

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
No, you don't need a new firewall for the site.
If you use zone alarm, and you have problems, I have provided instruction for you to set your security to allow ifish as a trusted site, so that you may post and send information to the board.

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
Please, if someone gave you the new URL, do not register. Your registration will not be approved until we open the board.
For some reason, two new people have registered. They'll just be deleted, as we need to import all of the old information over, later.
So, don't bother, now.
Thank you,
Jen

Give her some respect she has enough to do besides delete people pre-registering.

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
It's OK.
Anyway, on the new board, there are no member numbers, and that bugs me a bit. :depressed:
Maybe I can find a hack for that.
I did import the old user names, like native, etc... I even added another couple of levels.
"carp-al tunnel" and
"king salmon" Only problem, is that I am a King Salmon and I am a girl.

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
Jennie, please let me know if you find something that will allow you to assign member numbers and display the total number of registered members on the generic header. I've been looking for that as well.
You realize, don't you, that as the admin you can change your status or level to whatever you want? Say, "Queen Salmon" I think Brood Stock should be in there too.

jen, are we going to be able to keep our original names, or do we have to re-register our names on the new board in order to keep them?

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
This isnt important Jen but if you know at the moment its no big deal. My login name isnt the same as my posting name. Is this a problem? Cause I dont want to use my login name on the board. If its a problem I will reregister when the time comes.
Thanks Shawn

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
You do not need to reregister, and please don't! We want to keep our membership data clean and current.
Your user name and login SHOULD import the way it shows, now.

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
I'm not sure I got the firewall stuff right, but why did this thread try to place a cookie? Is there a hacker on ifish?
Also, can we change our names without losing our # of posts status? (I know, kinda off the point).

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
To my knowledge, all threads place a cookie, so that you will know what you have read, and what you have not read. Thus, the little lightbulb things on the front.

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
I don't mind the cookies with threads. Tells you what you have viewed, what you have posted on or started and how may views have been made of a thread. You can get a lot more information from threads. I am stoked.

Re: Let's prepare for the new board:
Ladies and Gents, I stall.
I hope it is just the evening tireds, but I am feeling very negative about the new board. I have dumped nearly 1000.00 into it, and countless hours of work.
The control panel just does not do what we need it to do. The user features are great. The administrative features are terrible.
I could pay for multiple hacks into the board to provide for what we do need, and I may very well do that. I hate to abandon this project at this point. We have come far.
However, tonight, tired, I am feeling like I just wanna stay with Classic. The Control panel is SO extremely superior to the one we have now.
There is another option, and I may just do it. It costs a lot, but I may go to UBBX, which is a hosted enviroment for the board. It's, like I said, the most expensive of options, but at least it has a control panel that Pete and I need, to keep this board running smoothly.
Maybe things will look better in the morning. I'm just having trouble getting support questions answered, and feeling very doubtful about things.
I'll tell you one thing though, I just read the TH rod thread, and I... well... I smiled. For the first time in hours, I smiled.
You guys are awesome, and I will fix this thing. I WILL! Things are going to be alright, cuz each and every one of you are AWESOME!
Jen
