Default pontoon anchor

Recently purchased a 9' pontoon boat. Went to 3 different stores on anchor rope and anchor weight and got 3 different things. Does anybody know what is preferrable?

Mine has a small pyramid anchor that seems to do the job pretty well.

Pyramid anchor all the way, 15# is the way to go. Just buy the blue/white anchor line/rope you can buy at GI Joes.

I 2nd what Steelheader69 said. 15# pyramid with the blue & white anchor rope. Can't go wrong with that setup.

The 15 lb anchor is the only way to go. I prefer and slick braided nylon rope so the rope untangles easier.

I use an 8 lb. mushroom. Switching to a pyramid since the mushroom can be difficult to pull up. It digs in a little too much.

I use a 10 lb pyramid on 35 feet of 1/2 inch nylon braid rope. I also went to a marine supply store and bought two nice pulleys (like they use on sailboats--I know they're not called pulleys, but blocks or something like that) and attached them to my frame with stainless steel clevises. They really make a difference when pulling the anchor. I've never had a problem holding my 9' pontoon with the 10 lb anchor. I generally move into softer water to anchor.

Get the biggest diameter anchor rope you use because it won't hurt your hands.

I bought 3 pyramids - each got heavier. I still wasn't satisfied because they didn't hold in winter flows and they got stuck in lava flow rivers easily (Siletz).

Went to a tire chain anchor. WAY better!

I am not anchoring in water that is too fast - only in places where the drift boaters anchor.

Also, figure out how to hold your oars in the water so that the blades are vertical. They act as rudders and the boat won't sway as much.

Sorry if I said something that others already told you. I don't have time to be doing this right now but I wanted to get my 2cents in also.
