Shotgun Repair
Local shop in Beaverton has had my 870 for 3 months. Stopped by twice for an update of repair. Hasn't started the job yet.
What's the current shop rate of firearm repairs?
Looking for a recommendation of other local shops, please PM this response.
Thanks

Re: Shotgun Repair
Pull it out and take to Al's in Verboort or Allison & Carey in Gresham.
Shop time isn't cheap any repair will cost you $50-100 depending on particular issue.
But 3mons is unacceptable, suggests they don't know what their doing or don't care.
Take it to someone who does.
What's the problem?

What's wrong with the gun? Might be an easy fix for an ifisher.

Re: Shotgun Repair
This shotgun is about 15 years old, at least 2K rounds, this is the only problem ever.
Early during my last SD pheasant trip, the trigger plate pins worked out of position, the gun jammed. While field repair/cleaning, the pressed-in shell latches fell out. Alternated with the Benelli and Winchester for the remainder of the trip.

You could probably order the parts and fix it yourself. 870's are about as simple as a gun can get.

That's often a problem with 870s.
What happens is those staked parts, aren't held in that well by the staking job (peening the metal with a chisel-like tool) and they come loose and fall out.
However IF you're careful, you CAN reassemble the gun and the Forward Trigger Assy Pin, plus the Trigger Mechanism will hold them properly located in place (and they CAN'T come out or loose with all that in place),
So the "fix" is to re-stake those Shell Latch Bars in place, probably ~a 30 second job (to do the actual staking)!
It also sounds like you're missing at least one your little Spring Retaining Clips that holds those pins in position? That's what let that Pin come out in the first place.
There's provision for TWO of those Retaining Clips for each Pin, however I've seen lots of 870 (my own included) that only come with one per pin.
Here's the tool that's used to perform this staking operation.
It's P/N 080-870-203 from Brownells.com . Too bad it's so expen$ive, or else you could order this tool and do the job yourself in just a few min.

There is a Remington repair center in Eugene. Jim Felton has been doing them for Remington for years. You might want to check this out.

Re: Shotgun Repair
Step one, go get your shotgun, TODAY. Seems kinds fishy that a simple repair has not started in 3 months. If you get it back, follow the above advice.

Re: Shotgun Repair
The gunsmith I use is usualy 3 months out on repairs. Of course he tells you this right up front before he takes your gun. The other thing he does is ask when you need it back. If you've got a hunt or something coming up he will work with your schedule.
When you asked about the repairs and or dropped your gun off, they didnt say anything about when they would get to it?

Re: Shotgun Repair
Went to get the shotgun this AM. "It's not here, he does the repairs in his shop" WTS? "I thought this was his shop" Not good, "It'll be here tomorrow" and I'll be there when he opens. GOD I hate to get jerked around like this.

Re: Shotgun Repair
Went to pick up my shotgun 0900.
"Not here, should be about noon, their car is being worked on." Another lame excuse.
Back at 1645, "Not here" ANOTHER lame excuse I didn't really hear, cause I was so ******. "Come back Tuesday"
WHAT? Can you believe this crap?
Without naming the gunn shop by name (yet), it's in downtown Beaverton, next to where the old feed store used to be.

Come on.

2 votes for Jim. He has helped me in successive years. My dad fell of his horse in the Blues and broke the trigger guard. He had a new one on in 15 minutes for real reasonable. Last year I had some trouble with my spring feeding the shells in the wrong angle, like up and back and not forward so the bolt could pick them up.
Jim is a great guy, does great work and can warranty like Dusky said.

No, not really!
They're really jerking you around!
This on a job that they should only charge you 15 min. labor for (maybe 30 min. max)
You're really looking at something that should only take a skilled Gunsmith maybe 5 min. max.
That's of course once they get some "round tuits"
If they can't produce it within a couple of days (Tuesday), I'd consider doing as Scottishsetter suggests, sick the heat on them!

Re: Shotgun Repair
These Ifish people surely are good folks: knowledgeable, happy to share, and level-headed (well, most of them ).
I'd give them a time when you are going to pick up your gun. A definite appointment. If you get the run-around instead of your gun in your hand, I'd do the "stolen" route.
It's likely you are not the only one who has been shown a tremendous disrespect by these people. Maybe the police are already aware of the crud they pull--maybe the bogus smiths need to hear your next step, if you don't get your gun in hand at the appointed time, --just tell them flat out that you will report it as stolen, with them being the people who you know took it.
Very shady dealings. Ugly tactics. You don't need their crap in your life.
Edit: Go ahead and save some of us the trouble of being manipulated by them: post their name.

Re: Shotgun Repair
Tramp,
I'd post their name so no other iFisher sends them a gun and runs into the same issues.
A buddy of mine had his remington auto into a Local Mollala shot 5 times and had to wait 5 wks to get it back. Only to find out that the shop doesn't do their own work but sends it out.

Re: Shotgun Repair
I know Tramp well. He's not a "little guy" and when he say's he's ******, lookout!!! I also have seen that 870 shoot as fast as a semi auto! WAS a smooth shooting gun. I agree that we all should know the "name of lame" here so that they can be blackballed. Customer service should be number one to those guys! WTS?! Good thing you have won so many guns huh Tramp? Got to have a back up- or ten!! That 870 is sentimental though and I know it! Whhhhhacked a lot of birds with that baby! He's not kidding on the 20K rounds! Go get 'em Tramp!! (Tramp--- is that a Springsteen thing?!)

Re: Shotgun Repair
Tell them what time you will pick the gun up, if it's not there at that time call the cops from the store and report it stolen. Sorry, but I was afraid this could be a problem. Oh, and IF they have a gun for you, check the serial number before you leave the store.

Re: Shotgun Repair
Got to the gunn shop at 1000...
"It's not here, she hasn't brought it by yet, we've only been open for an hour"..."I'll call you when it gets here"
"I have to go to work in an hour now I gotta come back tomorrow, why am I getting jerked around here?"
Counter guy got a crappy look on his face and didn't say anything.
Message this to your boss..... "I'm not paying and have the gun here tomorrow or I'll report it stolen"

Re: Shotgun Repair
Those things fall out of my wingmaster everytime I drop the trigger guard. Just press them back in and reassemble. They wont fall back out once you put the trigger assembly back in and it wont malfunction. What you probably are missing as previously written is one of the little wire clips that hold those pins in.

This morning I picked up my 870 from Dual Smoking Gunns.
Same condition as I dropped it off 3 months ago.
Counter guy said..."we should never accept some of these jobs....we need a special tool for this repair." Unbelievable!
Done with those guys.

I wasn't going to put in my But you sure have had a hard time.
Take your Gun to Al's gun shop look it up its on the west side of town.
My son also has an 870 that needed some work had in over to the other side of towm where they do Remington warrantee work had it in 2 times could not fix it right, just think they didnt want to spend the time on warrantee work.
With gas prices as they are I figured the third time just take it to Al's and pay for the repair it would cost less than going back over to the other place.
Few days it was fixed perfectly no problems, thats just our story.

Re: Shotgun Repair
Keep posting tramp I feel with all the duck hunters on here you'll get a good fix finally.
And I know you don't see it now but It was kind of funny in a way. I've been there... Mine was a Model 92 sent to Baltimore, Maryland 18 monthes later I got it back in pieces. I now know how to put one together, completely.
Time will heal. I'm almost over my debacle and it's been....ohh..11 yrs.
