I-fish, sticker idea anti-theft, loss
I was just reading the stocking hat thread and came up with a great idea (I think) for some Ifish stickers. I am not to sure how much it would cost to do this this but it may be worth it. I was thinking of fishing rod & reel stickers with the persons Ifish member number on them (just the number not the word "member", dont want to help the theives catch on). If someone lost a rod or even had one stolen and that sticker was on the rod it may come home. And if you found it in a pawn shop with your number on it, you would know it was yours. It would also be a big plus for describing a stolen rod to an officer as it would then be identifiable. Just the the standered logo and the members number so if it were stolen the theif hopefully would not even realize the rod or reel was marked. Imagine pulling up to a hole and finding a rod and reel, if it had the number you could post it on Ifish for the owner to pick it up. I would buy a bunch of them, cheap insurance if they get you back a rod & reel.

What keeps the thief from taking the sticker off?

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">If it looked factory and they did not know any better why would they remove it? chances are they would never even look at it. Now if it had a name, address, SS number, phone number, Etc. they would see that as a mark, But www.Ifish.com and a and a number, I would bet they would think nothing of it. And there are "rub-on decals" that look like they were stamped on when it was made, and they are easy to put on.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">rub it on, put the rod into a rod drying unit to turn it and apply epoxy flex coat over it. Permanent.

I think Office Depot sells cheap laser jet sticker kits...
It's always a good idea to put some kind of unique identifier on your gear.
(I'm wearin' this out, huh SafetyChain  )

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Well there is a chance they be on Ifish, but I would think not to many tweeker theivs, and those just looking to lift somthing to try turn for a quick buck would even have a computer. Lets just hope that type are not on here on a regular basis. I had stoped this last fall at the mouth of three rivers and chated with a couple of older guys and drove off and left a brand new rod leaning against some trees, I went back and they had remembered where I said I worked and they had planed on dropping it off there for me. So as a genral rule I think (or like to believe anyway) that most fisherman would return gear if they had a way of knowing they could contact the owner. You have to have some faith in people, there are allot of good guys out there, but the few bad ones realy leave a scar on trusting the rest of them. I think 99% of the readers on this board would return gear if they new they could. It seems to me that these guys consider this their second family, and look out for one anouther as much as possible. A personal sticker would be seen a marker and would get covered or moved, I think these would just blend into the rod as a factory or store lable and be ignored by people who did not know otherwise. Best thing is if it was known by local athoritys that these numbers meant somthing all they would have to do is find out who's member number that was and contact them to come get their gear. Nothing is 100% guranteed, but even a 20% chance of getting it back is better than a 0% chance.

Re: I-fish, sticker idea anti-theft, loss
Just had to reply so I could see my number....yup there it is ...great idea I wish I could have thought of this earlier maybe I'ld have my rods back insted of shopping for replacements although I think I'm gonna like my new black tiger I wouldn't object to getting my gti back.I just may do this on my own a little bit of stencil and some flex coat bam there it is.When my rods were stollen one point made by the sherrif keeps coming back at me, without numbers they can't be identified never again when I'm done that theif might have to work pretty hard to remove my # by then the rod would be so scuffed up even a tweeker would be ashamed to be seen fishin with it.But if he dosen't know what it meens why would he worry about it. Re: I-fish, sticker idea anti-theft, loss
if you are gonna do it, put your drivers license on it like this:
OR1234567DL (use your drivers license number though)
If it is located you can be contacted easier by the police and stand a better chance of it being returned.
As a matter of fact,, mark everything like that.
Dont use your social security number!!! use your state drivers license number.

Re: I-fish, sticker idea anti-theft, loss
What about writing your name on the rod with a felt pen then put some clear epoxy over it. --DAB
