Nice hunt. I love the ones with the barrel pointing to the sky. Congrats on getting the young gun out.

Glad to see folks who cover up so well get into the birds--especially when a youngster is involved! Good work, and congrats!!

Nicely done Wil. I love the shots of the overhead birds getting ready to land. It's something to look up and see 1000 birds prepping to land in your spread. Good luck next weekend.

Re: Todays Willamette Valley Goose Hunt - PHOTO JOURNAL
As a frustrated newbie, I studied every shot. Now seeing the decoys so far away from the blinds was news to me. Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong. Just shoot em when they fly by? Looks like you had ample opportunity. I'll setup differently Saturday after seeing your pics. Thanks!

"Just shoot them when the fly by?"
Though it may look like the birds are "just flying by", I'd bet they are really circling the decoy spread and looking to set down. The key is placing the decoys just far enough from the hide to get birds to feel secure, but also close enough that if they are touching down in the decoys they are still in range. Place the decoys a max of 45 yards out and you'll have good success.

I know that shorter older guy. He must have been trouble to get his blind just right, then stop his laughter. Good guy!

I was trying to capture the goose tornado that was ensuing, so we held off on a couple passes. Pretty fun... it's amazing how LOUD those geese can be. I'm still like a kid in a candy store when it comes to goose hunting.
Over the years you realize what is truly important when hunting - it doesnt matter how good the hunt is, it's the people you hunt with that make the memories. I think was our fourth time out with these guys and it is always a ton of fun.
