Default Sturgeon Bankee Reel Question

Someone had mentioned a reel that had an insane retrieve ratio that works good for bankees. I think it was a Penn spincaster but maybe not. The quote I remember mentioned someone reeling in their smelt on plane. Thanks.

Any of the Daiwa 50H, 50HV series. Awesome bank reels!

I have the Daiwa Grandwave-x 50shvk, its like the sealine x but with the 6.1:1 ratio it can get an 8oz to plane very fast.

Thanks for the replies.

Isn't it a pain in the rear when you don't have a levelwind?

once you get use to your thumb being your level wind you will never care if it has it or not.

Daiwa 50H
Cast sweet, just make sure you got a glove on or something so you don't burn the skin off your thumb when you cast one of them.

No glove needed...the large spool and bearings compensates for little thumbing needed to cast. The only time I thumb mine is to hold it still while loading the rod with my initial cast!!
The level wind factor is a no brainer after a day or two fishing...last yr my girlfriend happened to be next to my rod when it went off, and she has never reeled a non leveler before. I was some ways down the beach gabbing when I heard the bell go off and could see her grab it and slam the hook home...when I got there I figured it best to let her play and land the brute..33lbs URB..When I went to recast fearing she hadn't mended the line with her thumb she looked at me and said How'd I do?" It was wound perfect.
I went down and purchased her 1 the next day. They are sweet!!!

You'll probably forget to use your thumb only a couple times. When you're tired of reloading line, you'll begin to remember.

i use a diawa 50h and a sg50h on a 14'lamiglas pole W/30 or 40 lb maxima,i throw an 8 ounce lead, i can usualy get it out about a 100 yards.i never have any problems with burning my thumb,i set up my reels so its almost a freespool thing..but not quite,i dont thumb the line at all except when it hits the water.instead i put my thumb on the spool then lift it so it isint in contact w/ the line, then move it all the way left and touch the little bit of exposed spool with the side of my thumb and ad a very slight drag if needed.
i have burned my thumb trying to put a stop on oversized fish, blisterd my whole thumb in about 2 seconds...it was a bad one, after that a freind gave me a leather thumb protecter, a little peice of leather with an elastic strap to hold it on. i wear it backwards while waiting so its out of the way. as there is no time to find it and put it on when that bell rings

The Daiwa's can not be beet I owned alot of them. But one thing to ponder over is the new daiwa sealine X, sl-sh, and grandwave x and z series all have centrifigul casting brakes and some of these can even be converted to magnetic brakes. I have sold all of my 50 and 350H and now use a Grandwave Z with a custom 15' Lamiglas I can throw 6oz with bait 175 yards. My old sealines if you prayed and held your face just right 125 tops.
