Default Bowtech "The General" Recalled

Name of Product: “The General” Compound Bows
Units: About 8,000
Manufacturer: BowTech Archery, of Eugene, Ore.
Hazard: The ends of the bow’s limbs can unexpectedly break during use and send fragments of the bow in the direction of the user or bystanders, posing a risk of injury.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 255 reports of the bow’s limbs breaking, including 11 reports of lacerations, abrasions, or contusions when pieces from the breaking bow struck the user.

It may be old news by now but in honesty, it has me worried a bit... I own a "General" from this time frame and have taken it in for it's recall... Still worries me as I'm a first year shooter that my bow could implode in my hands.....

I think Bowtech should recall the bows and allow a buyer to pay 1/4-1/2 price on a bowtech of their choice....

255 of 8000, that's 3% of the bows made, 3 out of 100...... Personally I don't like those odds.......

Sick part is the bow shoots with the best of them and I really enjoy it....

I guess it would be a bummer to be one of the 3%.

Seems a little ripe. This was first announced in August 2008.

I had a 03 Pro 40 dually that the upper limb bolt pulled out of the riser. Shot over my 2yr olds head and sounded like a gun going off. That was my 2nd Bowtech. I shoot Hoyt now. I'm glad I made the change. The wife shoots a Martin no problem with either bow.

Isn't this what the former Bowtech R&D guy said after he quit/was fired?

The issue has been known for a while. However, this is the first time its been recalled through the cpsc. If anyone has a General just take it to your bow shop and they will get it taken care of. All they have to do is replace the limbs. Its a easy fix. I would not hesitate to continue ownership of one if i had one. One of the sweetest shooting bows around.
