Is there a reason you want to use Ball powder? I use Varget in the 22-250.

Re: Reloading the 22-250
I use H380 and have found a load that works well for me in my Savage rifle. Another powder to consider is W760. A buddy of mine uses it and he groups well out of his Ruger.
I would highly recommend a ball powder...it meters consistently...so I don't have to weigh each load. I get consistent velocities and accuracy due to that.

I have a Harrel powder thrower and it works much better with ball powders. You can increse your reloading speed dramatically and keep accuarcy with the Harrel powder thrower. You can powder up a block of 50 brass in about 4 mins. And when your reloading 1500 thats very nice.

Re: Reloading the 22-250
H380 gives excellent results but is temperature sensitive. If you develop a load using a max amount of powder in January you may be getting some stuck cases in July.
I use IMR 4320 which used to be considered the best for the 22-250. Varget is also a good 22-250 powder. I also get very good results with Benchmark.

Re: Reloading the 22-250
H380 works very well and I have not experienced temperature issues from it. I shoot 50 to 80 gr bullets in my rifle (1 in 8 twist) and it is very accurate. I have also had good luck with H335 and BLC- (2), all are ball powders and work well in my Dillon.
Their are many powders that will work well, and many that have similar burn rates as these powders...experiment, the 22-250 is not that particular in my experience. As other have said, find a readily available powder and work up a load. Start at the low end of the pressure range and work up.

My gun does not like maximum powder loads with H380 anyway so it's not an issue (for my gun anyway). 38.5-39 grains H380 with 40 gr BT's (1/14 twist barrel) is the sweet spot for my gun. Anything more than 39 grains and my groups start spreading out.

Re: Reloading the 22-250
I agree. I shoot 38.5 gr's of h380 and it shoots 3 shot, 2 hole touching groups off the bench in my ruger with 40 gr bt's.

Re: Reloading the 22-250
H380 works well for me too. Accuracy hasn't been quite as good as I want, but it was more the trigger than the handload. I just put a new trigger on it and it's much better. We'll see about the accuracy now

My gun has a 2 lb. Trigger. That helps a lot.

Re: Reloading the 22-250
I have tried several Win. Ball powders but never got any to shoot real well.
I have an old Ruger Varmiter in 22-250.
The loads I have come up with that will shoot 5 shots into a 3/8 or smaller circle at 100 Yds. are.
63 GR Sierra semi point / IMR 4064 - 35Gr. / CCI 200 primer / Remington cases.
Sierra 53 Gr HPBT Match / Vita N 140 - 35.5 Gr. / WLRS Primers / Win. cases.
DISCLAIMER
These loads are Max or close to Max so do not use these loads with out proper work up.

I must admit that I am relatively new to shooting sports so I don't really know what seasoned shooters would consider "accurate" and I only shoot alone at the range so I have never seen anyone elses targets (except for coaching at sight-in day). That being said, I am pleased with the results I get with H380 and Nos 40gr. BT's. I posted a couple of targets that I shot about a month ago while changing my zero from 100yrds to 200yds. 5 shot group at 100 yards are all touching and then I shot my 4 remaining rounds at a 200 yard target and I was pleased to see 3 of the bullets basically through the same hole and one was only about 1/8 inch from the group. Again, I don't know how this compares to other folks results but is seems that this rifle and load combo are pretty accurate to me. Here is the link to the thread which shows my targets, post #21. http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?t=233620

Re: Reloading the 22-250
Use H380 exclusively with 55 gr bullets in the Remington 700 with accuracy at .25" @ 100 yds.
