Lings and Things.... first 2004 trip.
Took these yahoos out for lings and things while the weather was nice. Kept 38 blacks and blues, 4 nice lings, 2 nice cabs, and 20 crabs. Let the 20 lb cab in the second picture go to spawn another day. Gonna be eating good for a few days. Didnt try for early salmon as I have no clue how to target ocean kings in March

Right on!
Kinda makes me homesick.
Too bad that cabbie wasn't fin-cipped and you had to throw it back.
I'll be down there tomorrow or Friday for a couple days.

Re: Lings and Things.... first 2004 trip.
Ug woulda whacked that poor cab had I not interceded on its behalf--it's just not right to kill a fish that's likely older than I am
Seriously though--big lings, cab's and salmon grouper all live to ripe old ages, and it's a pity to take the breeding stock out of the picture just for a little meat.
This was the second green cab we caught yesterday--whacked the littler one, and it cut green like a ling can. I don't believe I've ever seen that before.
What a day !!!
Get out there while you can folks!!

Re: Lings and Things.... first 2004 trip.
Kudos for letting that big cab go. That was a first-class thing to do. Soon you will be a new "godfather" of about 10,000 baby cab hatchlings.
(please, don't anyone say "codfather.")

Very nice, Uglygreen. Those spring bottomfish are great fun.
A blue cabezon, never seen that before. What a monster.

I'm headed out to the 2SJ tomorrow - first trip of the season. Wish me luck, but it will be tough to top that catch!

Re: Lings and Things.... first 2004 trip.
I knew I shouldn't have shown you my fishin' holes!
Save a few for us "flatlanders", eh!
Cabezon come in all the time that are blueish-green and cut like they look.
Not uncommon at all.
Ocassionally you will even catch a kelp greenling (seatrout) that has the same color disfiguration.
Ah chicken of the sea, and you through it back.
That's Ok and as Wild Dog said, let the big spawner's go, so I can catch them.
