I'm a 4/0 guy but I know plenty of guys that catch a lot of fish with bigger and smaller. I think you just have to make sure you let it load and peel line before you hammer it

I think people make way to big of a deal out of hook size with all fishing, from steelhead to salmon and so on. I think that for springers anything from a 2/0 to a 6/0 will work just fine. Use what works for you, if your missing fish, change it up, but if it ain't broken, don't fix it!
