Default BENNETT AUTO TAB CONTROL

Has anybody ever used or experienced the Bennett Auto Tab Control, BENAC2000 or similar device?

It keeps the trim tabs adjusted so that the boat stay level while underway. My brother is installing them on the 99' Striper 2300 he just got, and I was curious if there are any surprises coming our way? It does this by determining the side to side oil level in the remote resovoir and then compensates. In tight turns it will not respond, so you don't fight the boat...at least that is the story.

The reason he picked one up was in his initial runs with the boat the trim tabs behaved strangely. After debugging the trim tab behavior to a faulty pump on one side he decided to add this gadget. Bennet has replaced the pump sine it had a 5 year warr..

Thanks, and if you haven't experienced one and want to...let me know!

If you would just stay still on one side of the boat Gus he wouldn't need this!

No experiance on my part. I do have several experiances with not having indicators (all bad). I know a few other guys who have made at least a 9 on the pucker factor scale for having their tabs set wacky too. Usually only happens at full throttle.
I believe the indicators are more important than the auto feature. They would have told Bill that one side wasn't driving even though the motor was running. BTW- one pump feeds both sides, musta been a solenoid valve stuck on one side, not the pump itself.

Let us know how this works out!

I have one, but I have to admit that I don't use it. I primarily run in the ocean so they are pretty useless there. Inshore, I also had difficulty with them wanting to go all the way down. I currenlty have the device disabled and was thinking of removing it - other than the hole it will leave in the center console.

Mel, you are right, just one pump/control unit. The one side was taking over twice as long to retract. Indicators seem awfully important, bummer to hear your result Keywest, I hope our experience is better.

If you are having troulle with Bennett tabs, check WWW.thehulltruth.net . The owner of Bennett tabs reads that board and has a site devoted to trim tabs. Hope this helps.
good luck

I took Mel's advice last year and got the indicators. Spendy little boogers but well worth the cost. Takes all the guessing out, and after awhile you'll know pretty much where you want them for whatever conditions.
