Default Lanyards

When tuna fishing I use lanyards on all of my rods. To date I have attached them by encircling the reel with the cord and clipping it to itself. This is secure but is not user friendly when trying to remove the cord from the rod and get the rod out of the holder. Sometimes a two person task! Does anyone have a good way to attach a clip to the rod that would be easy to handle and yet be secure? The cost savings for using lanyards is significant so am not willing to forgo them. I look forward to your responses! BTW, most of my reals do NOT have lugs on them to use.
Thanks, Dave

Do your reels have a rod clamp on the bottom of the reel seat? If they do you could make an eye that attaches where the rod clamp goes that you can clip the laynard to.

Can you get lug kits for the reels?

The easiest way we found to do this last year, and the cheapest, was to just tie on a short piece of rope with about a 2 foot long tag end. The tag end is slipped around a cleat for safe keeping and not long enough to tangle in your feet while fighting fish. Although we never broke a rod holder and had to test the strength of our set up, I highly doubt the rope would have lost in any battle.
