Default West Trask Elk Hunt Help Needed

We used my sons 1st time hunt for the late season elk hunt that goes until March 15th. But with holidays, work and broke truck we have yet to go. We are heading down on the 28th for three days if need be and are looking for any input or direction. I have gotten some good feedback before the holidays but now that the time is closer anything will help. This is a new unit for us. James is 17 and this is his 1st elk hunt.. He just got into it over the last few years. We appreciate any info including a cheap hotel in the area,*Thanks Jim & James

If this the hunt is the one i'm thinking of i would say you will have no problem getting into elk around barney reservior esp during the week when the traffic is less. Most elk can be found a half mile or so of most roads, take a look at the topo and look for little nobs or benches. I've been able to sneak up on bedded elk but for the most part you will see where they are crossing the roads and can catch them out feeding. if you got time i'd just camp out and hunt as much as possible. I'm jealous that is a nice tag to have, a meat hunt that lasts that long and that close to home.

Confirm via PM if you are asking about 214A and if it is, I'll PM you back tonight where the elk are as of yesterday.

Somewhere's "East of Hebo".
Goodluck out there.

Be sure to throw in a chainsaw. The winter snow-ice-snow storms really wreaked havoc on the woods. Good luck!
