March Albacore & Yellowtail Shelly Ehmer (TheShark) Today - 08.49 AM (PST)

What a freaking great night and day on the water!!!

Thank you again Lee for taking Sia & I on this March Albe trip! Who would have ever thought...

The decision was made Friday night at the boat to run for the Albe's

Mike the bait guy from Ensenada have given Lee the dope on this Albe info! That guy is ok!!!

We knew we would get some... I had dreams all week about the Albe's...

We left the dock Friday night about 9:30 - We get to the bait doc and score some major cured Prime Grade A Bait!!!
Oh yes this trip is looking better and better as it starts...

As we head out on our heading - the weather is perfect- Jeff & John take the first shift in running the boat-

My shift started at midnight... The effloresence was rad- Dolphins hung out with me untill Lee & Jim took thier turn at the helm...
There is so much activity out there it is awsome...Bait is All over

I sack out until grey light- Lee came in and opened the blinds -I was up- Sia was out- John was trying to be out-

Jim & I decide to put on a RootBear Feather- Oh Yeah Baby - Say My Name...It is in the water and I grabbed a danish to much on... The Rootbear rod goes off... I am standing there in shock thinking I need more sleep - because the rod has something attached to it- I look for kelp - nada-HOOK UP!!!

Grab the rod and look like a idiot trying to reel in this fish- I did not know how to work the Tiagra- THAT IS MY EXCUSE... Besides being out of shape...

We boat this nice Albe- and high fives are going around the boat OH YEAH BABY!! ALBACORE IN MARCH!!!

From there we find a paddy - throw in bait Jim gets bit, I get bit and then Jeff or John or Lee got bit- We boat these three fish- I will not say anything regarding the gaff attemps- this is early season and the gaff attemps don't count this trip...

We spot pudlers of something- ALBE'S!!!
we work these fish and work them untill we get them to bite...

We boat more fish- Mine was lost due to a tangled mess- Yes I had a temper tantrummmm- I got over it- took awhile

then we get the visual on more Longfins... Jim baits them we bring them- he get's one to the boat and leaves it hanging

I finally get my bait fish Albe! Temper tantrum is done- Lee was happy I got my fish - so was everyone else

perfect conditions water was the best color I have seen in a long time- 84 miles west of the point- south west of the dumper-went out on my buddies 37' Riviera the Heather Lynn II

we work back for more on the way home-
we saw lots of paddys for nada!
Total fish for today
10 ALBACORE
3 YELLOWTAIL

Mark, Thanks for the links to this, though I am not sure it is good for me to be reading about this sort of thing right now. When I was surfing through the Terrafin shots, I saw some good temps off San Diego and wondered if anything was swimming in it. The latest issue of Pacific Coast Sportfishing shows a picture of an albacore that was taken on January 1 out on the Coronado Banks (at least so they say). I will be checking the El Nino update this week. Cheers...Bob

It's only March Mark,,there is an order to the fishing season isn't there?? Bottom grabbers then Halibut, next salmon maybe THEN the albies..

Sounds like a good grade of fish and not the early season peanuts..Wonder if these fish just hung around down there..Nice little row boat they were on too. Sure don't miss the 80+ mi one way trip though. Guess a party boat might go out possibly tonight on a 1 1/2 day trip if there is enough interest to warrant a trip..Thx for the great early news......

I have some brand new aluminum outriggers that came with my current boat, which was from San Diego. They have never been used and I was told they are an excellent brand. If anyone is interested in buying them contact me.

I'm not sure what I would do with them.

Mark, you really know how to kill a girl. I was going to go to So. Cal. for spring break, but NO... I had to invite my mom here instead! Instead of fishing (or even having TIME to think about fishing), we've been mired in getting the home repairs/remodelling finished!

But thanks for posting anyway. Now if I can just hang on another, oh, hundred or so days!
